by Christian Schoppmeyer / OIC Campus Reporter

The first QS Workshop in Taiwan was hosted by NCCU on April 26, attracting faculty, staff, and students from 52 universities across the island to learn more about reputation, branding, and internationalization strategies.

Speaking of the university rankings for Taiwan's higher education institutions, President Edward Chow has shown great concern, especially when facing powerful regional competitors from Singapore, Hong Kong, China, South Korea, and Japan.

Mandy Mok, CEO of QS Asia, gave a detailed account on how every university's performance were being assessed and emphasized on the importance of marketing and university branding, to show one’s uniqueness and increase the public exposure. Samuel Wong, Senior Researcher at QS Asia, shared his practical insights on how universities could improve their current ranking.

Jenny Hallen Hedberg, Director of the Office of International Affairs at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, shared the university's journey to the very top of the QS Asia ranking. Achieving an impressive faculty-student ratio of 1/4 and having acquired over 1000 industry partners from around the world, represent some of the aspects that have contributed to the very positive ranking in recent years. On the other hand, Singapore's very unique case with conditions in terms of budget and internationalization has also played a major role.
